Multi-Generational Transformational Philanthropy

“Transformational philanthropy” is a gift that has as profound an impact on the donor who makes it (and often their family) as it does on the organization receiving the gift. Transformational philanthropy is not a function of the size of the gift. It is a function of the passion behind the gift.

A transformational gift turns a transactional donor into a philanthropist and can transform a single transactional donor into a philanthropic, multi-generational family. The organization or fundraising professional who facilitates that desire through multi-generational planning accomplishes several important objectives:

• Fulfilling the philanthropist’s passions through support of organization(s) that fulfill their passions;
• Developing a philanthropic spirit in the philanthropist’s children /grandchildren;
• Strengthening and uniting the family in common cause, which helps the family to remain prosperous enough to continue their philanthropy for multiple generations; and,
• Creating multi-generational ‘gift streams’ to organizations.

This session will describe the steps to creating a transformational gift, and the one vital question that philanthropic planners often fail to ask.

About the speaker:

Rodney “Rod” C. Zeeb, JD, HDP™, is Founder & CEO of both The Heritage Institute® and Genacy™. The Heritage Institute provides training for trusted professionals in addition to Heritage Design Professional® (HDP™) certification. Genacy works with families multi-generationally either directly or in collaboration with their trusted professionals. The Heritage Institute also conducts and distributes original research, offers mentoring, coaching, and marketing support for professional advisors, and provides consulting services directly to individuals and families. Rod has over three decades of experience in estate planning, charitable planning, and heritage design and is recognized internationally for his contributions to the field.

Rod is the host of the “Trusted Advisor’ podcast, speaks on issues related to multi-generational planning, is the author of Beating the Midas Curse (now in its 3rd Edition) and Family Stewardship, co-author of the novel What Matters, and has been quoted in both US and international publications. Rod graduated Summa Cum Laude from Willamette College of Law in 1986, where he was Editor-in-Chief of the Willamette Law Review.
